Today Revelation Meditation : 22/01/2026 The book of Revelation Explanation Post -206 XVII.3 (6) “So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, ‘Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’” (Revelation 10:9) Beloved holy people of the Lord, Although in Revelation 10:8 the apostle John saw the angel as one who appeared mighty and glorious, because John immediately obeyed the command that came to him from heaven, the angel’s power and glory did not appear threatening or overwhelming to him. Therefore, John went to the angel and asked him to give the scroll. The angel, without hesitation, said, “Take it and eat it.” Dear children of God, the Lord does not desire to force heavenly revelations upon anyone. Rather, we must obey the commands given to us by God and ask Him to receive them. Heavenly counsel is not revealed or given all at once. It is given little by little—either to mankind as a whole or to a particular servant of God. “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.” (Hebrews 1:1–2) “Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith.” (Romans 16:25–26) All these Scriptures teach us how we are to understand the divine will of God that we have meditated upon. The angel also explains the effect of eating the scroll. Though it will be sweet like honey in the mouth, it will be bitter in the stomach. Since the Word of God is contained in this scroll, it is no surprise that it is sweet. “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103) “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight.” (Jeremiah 15:16) “They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:10) “Then he said to me, ‘Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.’ So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.” (Ezekiel 3:3) Beloved saints of the Lord, all these Scriptures teach us that the Word of God is sweet to the tongue—sweeter than honey. The angel warns about the result of eating the scroll: though it is sweet in the mouth, it becomes bitter in the stomach. Because the Word of God is in the scroll, it is sweet. David says, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” Dear holy people of God, it is not enough merely to read the Word of God; we must eat it. We must receive it into ourselves and become united with it. Our inner spiritual person must be strengthened mightily by the Word of God. The Word and our life must become one. Just as food, once eaten, becomes one with our body, so the Word of God must not remain external to us but dwell within us. As food is digested and becomes blood and flesh and begins to nourish us, so the Word of God must remain within us and strengthen us. God and the Word of God are one: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1) “For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” (John 6:33) “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life.’”. (John 6:35) These Scriptures teach us that the Word of God, which is the living bread, gives us eternal life. Scripture is not given merely to increase our knowledge, nor simply to stir our emotions or excite us, but to penetrate every part of our being, to flow through our very lifeblood, and to become a part of us. The comfort, joy, and life-giving experience produced by the Word of God bring us into a divine spiritual sweetness. The angel tells the apostle John that it will be sweet in the mouth but bitter in the stomach. In prophetic words, there are messages sweet like honey, and at the same time, bitter messages. There are words that bring joy, and there are also words of rebuke, warning, and judgment that bring sorrow. David says that the laws of the Lord are more precious than gold and sweeter than honey, and by them God’s servant is warned. From this we understand that the Word of God gives both sweetness and bitter warning. The bitterness spoken of by the angel refers to the warnings revealed in the prophetic Word of God.
