1. The Beating Retreat ceremony, marking the culmination of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, will be held today at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other Union Ministers will be present on the occasion.
2. Prime Minister Modi said, India’s aviation sector has undergone a historic transformation over the past decade, evolving into the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market. PM stated this in a video message at the Wings India 2026 event which got underway at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. Asia’s largest civil aviation event, Wings India 2026 will continue till Saturday.
3. Maharashtra is in deep mourning following the tragic demise of State’s Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Ajit Pawar, in a plane crash near Baramati in Pune district yesterday morning. Last rites of NCP Chief will be performed with full state honours around 11 AM today in Baramati.
A Learjet 45 (VT-SSK) aircraft, operated by VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, was carrying five people on board, including the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, two more personnel and two crew members. No one on board survived the crash.
The President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, several Union Ministers have expressed profound grief at the demise of the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister.
4. The results of the Best Marching Contingents and Best Tableaux of the Republic Day Parade 2026 have been announced.
Among the three Services, the Indian Navy has been adjudged the Best Marching Contingent, while the Delhi Police won the award in the category of Central Armed Police Forces and other Auxiliary Forces. In the States and Union Territories category, Maharashtra secured first place for its tableau Ganeshotsav: A Symbol of Aatmanirbharta.
Jammu and Kashmir stood second for Handicrafts and Folk Dances of Jammu & Kashmir, followed by Kerala in third place for Water Metro and 100 Per Cent Digital Literacy: Aatmanirbhar Kerala for Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
5. The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has constituted a high-level committee to strengthen Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in Tamil Nadu.
6. Minister for state of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Jitin Prasada, launched the Aadhar App in New Delhi on the occasion of the Unique Identification Authority of India day.
7. The government has notified the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, which will come into effect from 1st April this year.

NITI Aayog launched Sampoornata Abhiyan 2.0, a three-month campaign aimed at achieving saturation of critical development indicators in Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks across the country. Launched by the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, in New Delhi, the campaign will run till 14th of April, this year.

Maharashtra has become the first state in India to establish dedicated menopause clinics within government hospitals and urban health facilities, marking a significant step towards women-centric public healthcare. The initiative aims to address the long-ignored physical and mental health challenges faced by women during menopause through structured and accessible medical support.
10. Indian Railways has deployed its first humanoid robot, ASC ARJUN, at Visakhapatnam Railway Station. Developed by the Railway Protection Force using indigenous technology, the robot enhances passenger assistance, security, surveillance and emergency response through AI-based systems.
11. Uttarakhand has implemented the Uniform Civil Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, bringing procedural, administrative and penal reforms to strengthen digital registration, transparency, women’s empowerment and effective implementation of the UCC.

The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) has successfully facilitated the deportation of three Red Notice subjects- Sridharan Subramaniam, Pratifkumar Selvaraj and Navindren Raj Cumarason-from India to Malaysia. The bureau, in a statement, informed that deported individuals were wanted by the Malaysian authorities for the offences related to organised criminal activities.
2. The Supreme Court (SC) said that additions and deletions are part of the electoral roll revision exercise undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as SC resumed final hearing on a batch of 19 petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
3. The government has issued directions to all recognised National Sports Federations (NSFs) to discontinue the unauthorised use of the State Emblem, logos of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said that certain NSFs are using official government logos and emblems on their letterheads and websites, which can create an incorrect impression of being a direct part of the government.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Anantrao Pawar (22 July 1959 – 28 January 2026) died on Wednesday morning after a chartered plane crash in Baramati. Five people on board, including the crew, were killed when the plane, flying from Mumbai, crash-landed at 08:45 local time, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.
Pawar was travelling to attend a Zilla Parishad election rally. He had been in Mumbai on Tuesday for a Maharashtra Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The longest-serving Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Pawar held the post six times under different governments. He began his political career in 1982. The last rites of will be performed with full state honours at Baramati in Pune district at around 11 am today.
