When cine persons toil hard to create a benchmark of their own best—one shot, one dialogue, one sequence, one song—to gain self-satisfaction and create a mass moment for their followers, here comes a person who made an entire film Rocketry (The Nambi Effect) a benchmark—not only for his acting, but also for his directorial skills. This was a completely new angle of Madhavan, one that even his ardent followers did not fully know about. The story itself was so dry and complex that even Oscar-winning directors would hesitate to attempt it. Forget attempting—most would not even imagine bringing such a subject to the screen. The grip and motivation began right from the very first glance of the trailer, especially the scene where a temple priest blows off the flame of camphor so that Nambi cannot take it. Such rudeness was never expected from a harmless priest community, traditionally known for transferring God’s blessings to everyone—even mass murderers—who stand before the sanctum sanctorum. This moment sparked something deep among God-loving people, particularly the women community, especially homemakers who believe in God more than anyone else and who are the custodians of pooja rooms in every Hindu home—home-level authorities comparable to temple priests themselves. Once that spark made them start watching, the flow of the movie became so gripping that it was irresistible to stop before watching it fully. So much talent. So much understanding. Hidden within one man. Madhavan the Great was surely the right choice for the Padma Shri Award.
