An Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo has resulted in 101 deaths and 550 confirmed cases in less than a month. The outbreak, primarily in Ituri province, is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus strain, which currently lacks an approved vaccine. While 19 patients have recovered, healthcare workers face challenges including armed conflict and community mistrust. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the infection has crossed into Uganda and emphasized the need for community cooperation to control the spread.
