Similipal Biosphere Reserve in Mayurbhanj district is moving towards becoming forest-fire free through modern technology and community awareness. After devastating fires in 2021 that saw over 2,800 fire points, the forest department has implemented a blueprint involving AI-enabled drones, satellites, and specialized ODRAF teams. Currently, 14 to 60 drones are monitoring the 2,750 sq km area, allowing fire detection within 2-3 minutes.
