Was and were എന്നിവ same അർത്ഥം ആണ്. കഴിഞ്ഞുപോയ കാര്യങ്ങൾ (past) കുറിച്ച് പറയാനാണ് ഇത് ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. എന്നാൽ ഇവ രണ്ടു രീതിയിൽ ആണ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുക.
Was എന്നത് (I, She, It, He) കൂടെയും
Were എന്നത് (You, They, We) എന്നതിന്റെ കൂടെയുമാണ്

Was (ഒരാളായിരുന്നു - I, He, She, It)
I was tired yesterday. (ഞാൻ ഇന്നലെ ക്ഷീണിതനായിരുന്നു.)
He was at home. (അവൻ വീട്ടിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.)
She was a teacher. (അവൾ ഒരു ടീച്ചറായിരുന്നു.)
It was a rainy day. (അതൊരു മഴയുള്ള ദിവസമായിരുന്നു.)
I was born in Kochi. (ഞാൻ ജനിച്ചത് കൊച്ചിയിലാണ്.)
He was very happy. (അവൻ വലിയ സന്തോഷത്തിലായിരുന്നു.)
She was sleeping when I called. (ഞാൻ വിളിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവൾ ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു.)
It was my birthday yesterday. (ഇന്നലെ എന്റെ ജന്മദിനമായിരുന്നു.)
The food was delicious. (ഭക്ഷണം രുചികരമായിരുന്നു.)
He was not there. (അവൻ അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.)

We were friends in school. (ഞങ്ങൾ സ്കൂളിൽ കൂട്ടുകാരായിരുന്നു.)
They were playing football. (അവർ ഫുട്ബോൾ കളിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.)
You were not in the class. (നീ ക്ലാസ്സിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.)
The keys were on the table. (താക്കോലുകൾ മേശപ്പുറത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.)
