The Punjab and Haryana High Court has declared the arrest of Akali Dal worker Jobanpreet Singh, an aide of Bikram Singh Majithia, as illegal and ordered his immediate release. The court observed that proper procedures were not followed during the arrest. Simultaneously, the Amritsar District Court ordered the rural police to provide a copy of the FIR to Majithia's lawyers within 24 hours.
