The Odisha government has initiated a process to correct the English spellings of various districts, blocks, and towns to align them with Odia pronunciation and identity. A high-level expert committee led by Dr. Pratibha Ray has recommended changing more than 50 names across 27 districts. Key changes include renaming Cuttack to 'KATAKA', Khordha to 'KHORDHA', Berhampur to 'BRAHMAPUR', and Kendrapara to 'KENDRAPADA'.
