Bengaluru is set to host India's first shared double-decker alignment for Namma Metro and Suburban Rail at Benniganahalli. This 500-meter stretch uses a single pillar base where the Suburban Rail (Kanaka Line) runs below the Metro (Blue Line). This innovative engineering feat has saved approximately 169 crore rupees and prevented the displacement of over 600 residents by avoiding the acquisition of 1.65 acres of expensive land. Experts from IISc have cleared the technical challenges of running AC and DC electrical systems on the same structure.
