The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed all mining activities near the confluence of the Sutlej and Swan rivers in Rupnagar district. Responding to a petition alleging illegal commercial mining under the guise of bridge maintenance, the court directed the Punjab government to produce tender records and contractor details. The petitioner raised concerns over environmental damage and the safety of a 1km suspension bridge.
