The Indian Army is set to propose its largest artillery modernization project worth approximately ₹23,000 crore to acquire over 300 additional K9 Vajra self-propelled tracked howitzers. The proposal will be presented to the Defense Acquisition Board this week. Once approved, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will manufacture these in collaboration with South Korea's Hanwha Aerospace. The K9 Vajra has a range of over 40 km and features 'shoot-and-scoot' capability. This acquisition will take the total count of K9 Vajra units in the army to over 500, significantly boosting India's defense posture along the borders with China and Pakistan.
