Allegations of large-scale irregularities have surfaced in the Neelamadhab Slum Dweller Housing Project in Bhubaneswar. Local councilor Itishree Das alleged that 70% of the houses meant for slum dwellers are being rented out to outsiders for ₹8,000-10,000. It is claimed that single families have received multiple units, while well-off individuals were selected over needy ones. BMC officials confirmed that some houses have already been sealed following raids triggered by a theft investigation that exposed illegal renting. Mayor Sulochana Das stated that strict action and sudden raids will be conducted upon receiving specific complaints, including verification of affidavits and assets owned by the beneficiaries.
