CBSE has clarified that the new three-language policy will not be applicable to Class 10 students for the 2026-27 academic year. These students will continue with the existing two-language system and won't face a third language board exam. While students in classes 7, 8, and 9 will study three languages, their third language assessment will remain internal. The mandatory third language board exam for Class 10 will first apply to the batch entering Class 6 in 2026-27. Under the new policy, if a foreign language is chosen, the other two must be Indian languages.
