The Odisha state government has ordered an investigation into large-scale eucalyptus cultivation in Koraput district following complaints about its adverse environmental impacts. The Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department directed the Koraput DFO to investigate claims that this farming leads to depletion of groundwater, environmental degradation, and encroachment on tribal land rights. The probe was initiated based on a petition by activist Anup Kumar Patra, who alleged that outside groups are exploiting tribal farmers.
