For the first time in Kerala's political history, the BJP has decided to field a candidate for the Speaker's post in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced that BB Gopakumar, the newly elected MLA from Chathannoor, will be the party's candidate. The election for the Speaker's post is scheduled for Friday. While the Congress-led UDF has nominated Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the LDF is yet to announce its candidate.
