Born on 23 April 1938 in Andhra Pradesh, she built an extraordinary career spanning over six decades and recorded more than 48,000 songs in over 20 languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. Her expressive voice, flawless pronunciation, and ability to convey deep emotions earned her the titles "Nightingale of South India" and "Gana Kokila." She has won numerous prestigious awards, including four National Film Awards and many state awards.
