🌟 Michèle Rakotoson – Malagasy Writer and Journalist 🌟
Michèle Rakotoson was born in Antananarivo, Madagascar. She is a writer, novelist, playwright, and journalist.
She grew up in a Protestant family. Her father is a journalist, and her mother is a librarian. She studied at Jules Ferry High School in Antananarivo.
In 1983, she left Madagascar for political reasons and moved to Paris, where she continued her studies. She became a teacher of Malagasy literature, a radio and TV journalist, and organized literary events at Radio France Internationale.
Michèle Rakotoson writes about the history of Madagascar. She created the idea of “insular malaise”, which talks about colonization and slavery.
In 2011, she worked with musician Nicolas Vatomanga to create Slam Jazz, a new art that combines poetry (Slam) and improvised music (Jazz).
In 2012, the French Academy gave her the Grand Medal of the Francophonie for all her work. She was also named Commander of Malagasy Arts and Letters.
In 2023, she won the Orange Book Prize in Africa for her book Ambatomanga, Silence and Pain.
