Utkala Divas – History
Utkala Divas is celebrated every year on April 1st to mark the formation of the state of Odisha in 1936.
📜 Why it is celebrated
Before 1936, Odia-speaking people were scattered across different provinces under British rule like:
Bihar & Orissa Province
Madras Presidency
Central Provinces
Because of this, the Odia language and culture were getting neglected. So, people started a movement to unite all Odia-speaking regions into one state.
