Hyenas (family Hyaenidae) are highly intelligent, misunderstood carnivoran mammals native to Africa and Asia, famous for their unique vocalizations and powerful bone-crushing abilities. Despite appearing dog-like, they are biologically closer to cats, mongooses, and civets (suborder Feliformia).
