Ganga Saptami will be observed on, the 8th of #May 2022. According to North Indian Hindu Calendar, it is celebrated on the 7th day of Shukla Paksha in the Month of #Vaishakha.
It is believed that on this day devotees who take holy bath in the river Ganga get rid of their all sins. Here is a legend of Goddess #Ganga, Bhagirath, and Sage Jahnu.
According to Mythologies, Bhagirath wants to take Ganga from heaven to liberate his ancestors from sins. For this, he pleased Lord Brahma through penance. Lord Brahma then warned Bhagirath that the flow of Ganga is very powerful which could be harmful to the earth.
He then began another penance to please Lord Shiva to turn the flow of Ganga towards him to control the force of Goddess Ganga. Lord Shiva agreed with Bhagirath and hold the Ganga in his hair and released the Goddess Ganga through a loose end to control the force of water.
When the water of Ganga reached on the earth a flood came near the Ashram of Sage Jahnu and his all sacrificial fires and other thing go waste. The angry sage then gulps the water of Ganga. When Bhagirath heard about this he came to the Sage and explained the reason why he wanted Goddess Ganga to come on earth. Sage Jahnu appreciated his work and then released Ganga by cutting his left thigh.
