The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is seriously considering the introduction of polymer or plastic notes to replace traditional paper currency. Discussions held in Patna and Mumbai board meetings highlighted challenges like high printing costs and the short lifespan of paper notes. Polymer notes, made from a special polypropylene substrate, are more durable and feature advanced security layers to prevent counterfeiting. While they cost 2-3 times more to produce initially compared to paper notes, a pilot project is expected soon to test their feasibility in the Indian economy. https://sambad.in/india-and-beyond/will-rbi-bring-polymer-notes-11890703 #creator program
