Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal announced a 167% increase in the irrigation area under the Bist-Doab canal network for 2025-26. An additional 1,10,762 acres have been brought under canal irrigation, with 19,213 acres receiving water for the first time. The initiative benefits Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, and Hoshiarpur.
