A 22-year-old youth named Kanhu Charan Singh drowned in the Kuakhai river near Balianta while attempting to save his friend. A group of seven friends had gone for a bath when one of them started drowning in a deep underwater trench. Kanhu managed to pull his friend to safety but unfortunately lost his balance and got swept away into the deep water. Fire department officials later recovered his body and he was declared dead at the hospital.
