Around 27,000 retail and wholesale chemists in Punjab are going on a 24-hour strike starting Wednesday midnight to protest against the online sale of medicines and e-pharmacies. Organized by the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists, the protest highlights concerns over predatory pricing by online platforms and health risks due to lack of prescription verification. While most local shops will remain shut, pharmacies inside hospitals will stay open to ensure emergency services are not disrupted. Cities like Ludhiana expect a total shutdown of over 3,000 shops, whereas Jalandhar may see a partial impact.
