The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has warned of a severe global food crisis within the next 6 to 12 months. Driven by tensions near the Strait of Hormuz and El Niño weather patterns, the crisis is expected to start with rising oil prices, leading to increased costs for fertilizers, seeds, and agricultural production. Global food prices have already risen for three consecutive months as of April. To mitigate this, FAO suggests finding alternative trade routes, promoting mixed farming to reduce chemical fertilizer dependency, and providing direct digital support to vulnerable families.
