On the afternoon of 7th June 2026 (around 4:40 PM), three parked Air India narrow body Airbus A320 family aircraft at Terminal 2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi, were damaged when strong winds and heavy rain during a sudden storm dislodged ground support equipment, including airport boarding stairs/stepladders and other equipment belonging to Air India Engineering and IndiGo, which then struck the aircraft.
No passengers or crew were on board and no injuries were reported. All three aircraft were immediately taken out of service for inspection and repairs; airport and airline sources said two aircraft are expected to return to operations soon, while one sustained more significant damage and may remain grounded for several days.
Airport operator DIAL stated that the sudden deterioration in weather occurred without a prior warning from Air Traffic Control to airlines or the airport operator, and an investigation has been initiated. #new delhi
