The Central Government has defended the recent ₹29 hike in domestic LPG cylinder prices, stating that Indian households are still protected from the full impact of global price surges. Despite international prices rising by 46% due to West Asia tensions, the government claims to be bearing a loss of approximately ₹700 per cylinder, as the actual cost exceeds ₹1600. Currently, a cylinder costs ₹942 in Delhi, while Ujjwala beneficiaries pay ₹642. The government emphasized that domestic rates remain among the lowest globally compared to developed economies.
