Illegal mining, especially illegal sand and gravel (“बजरी”) extraction, has remained a major issue in Rajasthan’s Nagaur region for years. Rajasthan government data also showed more than 7,000 FIRs related to illegal mining registered across the state over seven years. Rajasthan authorities have also estimated that illegal sand and gravel mining caused the state government revenue losses of more than ₹150 crore in certain periods. In January 2026, police raided a farmhouse in Harsaur village of Nagaur and recovered about 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate along with detonators and fuse wires allegedly linked to legal and illegal mining activities. In September 2025, Nagaur Police seized vehicles and machinery worth nearly ₹10 crore linked to illegal mining operations and arrested three accused. Local residents often complain about heavy trucks damaging village roads, illegal excavation near rivers and farms, dust pollution, groundwater depletion, and alleged threats from mining groups. #RAJASTHAN
