The West Bengal government has officially joined the Telecommunication Rule 2024, paving the way for the implementation of the Bharat Net broadband project. This initiative will bring high-speed internet to 2.5 lakh panchayats across the state. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia welcomed the move, highlighting its importance in strengthening digital infrastructure. Previously, the state had integrated other central schemes like Ayushman Bharat and PM Shri. The project aims to provide modern digital connectivity to rural areas that were previously excluded from these benefits.
