A weak southwest monsoon has led to a significant 38.87% drop in water storage levels across 166 major reservoirs in India compared to last year. According to the Central Water Commission, as of July 2, 2026, these reservoirs held 47.725 BCM of water, down from 78.077 BCM during the same period last year. Rainfall across the country between June 1 and July 4 was 27% below normal, with North-East and East India facing a 41% deficit. South Indian states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have seen a 33.60% reduction in reservoir capacity, raising concerns over water security. https://argusnews.in/national/weak-monsoon-impact-india-reservoir-water-levels-drop-38-percent #creator program
