📖 Today’s Gospel — April 28, 2026
Tuesday of the 4th Week of Easter
John 10:22–30
It is the feast of the Dedication.
A time of light.
A time of remembering.
And in that setting, they confront Jesus:
“How long will you keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
They want clarity.
But not commitment.
Jesus answers:
“I told you, and you do not believe.
The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me.”
The problem is not lack of evidence.
It is lack of openness.
“But you do not believe,
because you are not among my sheep.”
Then He returns to the image that defines everything:
“My sheep hear my voice.
I know them, and they follow me.”
Not argument.
Not pressure.
Relationship.
Recognition.
Trust.
Then comes the promise:
“I give them eternal life,
and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.”
Security.
Not fragile.
Not temporary.
Unbreakable.
“My Father… is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.”
Double assurance.
Held by the Son.
Held by the Father.
Then the statement that changes everything:
“I and the Father are one.”
Not similar.
Not aligned.
One.
✨ Reflection
This Gospel challenges the desire for certainty without surrender. Many want clear answers but resist the relationship that requires trust. Jesus does not force belief—He reveals Himself to those who listen. In a world filled with noise, His voice is still present, but it requires attention. The deeper question is not whether God has spoken—but whether we are listening.
💡 Context (Important)
This moment takes place during the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah), celebrating the restoration of the Temple. In that setting, Jesus reveals Himself as the true presence of God. His statement “I and the Father are one” is a direct claim to divinity, which will lead to strong opposition. The shepherd imagery continues, emphasizing belonging, identity, and security in Him.
💡 Truths to Remember
• Faith grows through relationship, not argument alone
• Jesus’ sheep recognize His voice and follow
• Eternal life begins now, not only after death
• No power can remove us from God’s hand
• Jesus is one with the Father—true God
🙏 Prayer
Jesus, Good Shepherd, teach me to hear Your voice clearly. Remove the noise that distracts my heart. Help me to trust Your presence and follow You with confidence. Keep me secure in Your hand, now and always. Amen.
