A tragic road accident occurred near Bhatra in Sambalpur district when a cement mixer truck hit an EV auto-rickshaw from behind. The accident claimed the lives of the auto driver, Surendra Behera, and his 5-year-old daughter, Shubhashree. While the girl was declared dead at the district headquarters hospital, her father passed away the following morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Burla. The truck also hit a car, but no injuries were reported from that impact as the car was empty.
