Berhampur police encountered two criminals, Ranjan Mallick and Saroj Panda, late Monday night near Ankushpur. The accused were involved in the high-profile kidnapping and rape case of a plot businessman. The incident occurred when four suspects were being brought back from Rajasthan on transit remand and two tried to escape from police custody. In self-defense and to prevent the escape, police opened fire, injuring both. They are currently undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
