On 8th June 2026: A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, with the epicenter near Maasim, Sarangani Province, causing widespread destruction across General Santos City, Sarangani, Davao del Sur, and nearby areas. Buildings, schools, commercial structures, and a restaurant collapsed, roads and infrastructure were damaged, power outages were reported, and coastal communities experienced tsunami waves after regional tsunami warnings were issued. At least 19 people have been killed, more than 200 injured, and several others remain missing, while rescue teams continue searching through damaged buildings. Airports temporarily suspended operations, flights were canceled, classes across Mindanao were suspended, and more than 100 aftershocks followed the main quake.
