The Maharashtra government has acquired the iconic 23-storey Air India building at Nariman Point in South Mumbai for Rs 1,601 crore. The deal was finalized in the presence of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. Built in 1974, the sea-facing landmark was previously under Air India Assets Holding Limited after the Tata Group's takeover of the airline. The state government plans to relocate several of its offices to this building to address space shortages after conducting a safety audit and necessary repairs. The main entrance will be redesigned to showcase Maharashtra's culture and heritage.
