Discus thrower Banveer Singh has been banned for 7 years after testing positive for the steroid methandienone, while distance runner Harendra Kumar received a 4-year ban for using darbepoetin. Banveer, who is the oldest Indian athlete to be banned, had his initial 5-year sentence increased by the appeals panel. Both athletes have been penalised for bringing disrepute to the nation's sporting image.
