On World Environment Day, a conference was organized in Semiliguda by the Koraputia Janasuraksha Sangha and Center for Climatic Justice. The meeting passed a unanimous resolution demanding a ban on new bauxite mining in Koraput and throughout Odisha. Environmentalist Prafulla Samantara and other activists criticized the government for granting mining leases to corporates, alleging it violates tribal rights and destroys natural water sources.
