A 53-year-old captive elephant named Marthanda died at the Dubare Elephant Camp in Kodagu after being attacked by another tusker named Kanjan. The clash reportedly occurred due to mating competition involving a female elephant named Hemavathi and Kanjan's aggressive 'musth' state. Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre expressed grief and ordered that Kanjan should no longer be used for the Dasara festival.
