The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planted 19,000 saplings along a 36 km stretch of the Alagapuri-Rajapalayam four-lane highway. Following the rule of planting 10 saplings for every tree removed during expansion, 9,000 flowering plants were placed in the median and 10,000 shade trees like Neem and Pungam on both sides.
