On 15 May 2026, a massive fire broke out at the Chakrapur Sabzi Mandi in the Sachendi area of Kanpur, reportedly due to a short circuit, destroying around 40–44 shops and causing estimated losses of nearly ₹2 crore. According to reports, the blaze started early morning near platform number 6 and quickly spread through the market, with several LPG cylinders reportedly exploding during the incident. Multiple fire brigade teams were deployed and managed to bring the fire under control after hours of effort. No deaths were reported, though huge quantities of vegetables, fruits and shop materials were gutted in the flames.
