IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe, the Commissioner of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), has initiated a massive crackdown on illegal gutkha and pan masala sales. Within a month, goods worth ₹3.27 crore were seized. Mundhe has directed officials to invoke the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against manufacturers and sellers involved in organized networks. He also warned FDA officials of strict action if found complicit and banned the use of newspapers for wrapping food items.
