The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) following an outbreak of Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD), a rare strain of Ebola, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Approximately 88 deaths have been reported and over 300 suspected cases identified. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for this strain. While WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned of high regional risks, the organization advised against closing international borders.
