📖 Today’s Gospel — April 27, 2026 Monday of the 4th Week of Easter John 10:11–18 Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Not a distant guide. Not a temporary protector. A Shepherd who stays. “He who is a hired hand… sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away.” The difference is not skill. It is love. The hired hand works for pay. Jesus loves with ownership. “With me, the sheep are not a task— they are mine.” “I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father.” This is not surface-level knowing. It is intimate. Personal. Unbreakable. Then the heart of it: “I lay down my life for the sheep.” Not taken. Not forced. Given. Freely. And not for a few: “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold… they will hear my voice.” No boundary. No exclusion. One Shepherd. One flock. Then the authority behind it: “No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down on my own.” This is not defeat. This is power. “I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.” The Cross is chosen. The Resurrection is certain. ✨ Reflection This Gospel confronts the fear of being abandoned. In a world where people leave when things become difficult, Jesus remains. He does not run from weakness, failure, or brokenness. He moves toward it. The deeper question is not whether He is faithful—but whether we trust the Shepherd enough to follow His voice over all others. 💡 Context (Important) This continues the Good Shepherd discourse. After revealing Himself as the Gate, Jesus now reveals the cost of that role. He is not only the entrance to life—He is the one who gives His life. The mention of “other sheep” points to the universal Church, extending beyond Israel to all nations. 💡 Truths to Remember • Jesus is the Shepherd who never abandons His sheep • His sacrifice is freely chosen, not forced • He knows each person personally and completely • His mission includes all people—one flock, one Shepherd • The Cross is not loss—it is the path to life 🙏 Prayer Jesus, Good Shepherd, You did not run from the Cross—you chose it for me. Teach me to trust Your voice above fear and confusion. Keep me close to You, and lead me where You want me to go. Amen.
