Coastal erosion is rapidly increasing along the Ganjam coast from Rushikulya mouth to Prayagi due to high tides. Significant damage has been reported near Gokharkuda and Bateshwar temple, where connecting roads and protective casuarina forests are being destroyed. Local residents fear that villages like Kantiagada and Noliagaon might submerge in the future. The erosion also threatens the nesting grounds of the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles. While families were relocated in previous years following similar issues, locals and intellectuals are now demanding immediate and permanent government intervention to prevent a major disaster.
