On 12 May 2026, BJP leader Saubhagya Singh Thakur, who was recently appointed chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Textbook Corporation, arrived in Bhopal from Ujjain with a massive convoy of supporters’ vehicles for his joining ceremony, triggering controversy because the event came just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to save fuel amid global energy concerns. Different reports estimated the convoy size from around 50 vehicles to several hundred cars. Responding to the criticism, Saubhagya Singh Thakur said only about 25 vehicles initially travelled with him and more supporters joined along the route, claiming he did not realise the convoy had become so large. The convoy reportedly caused traffic disruption in parts of Bhopal, including near Board Office Square, DB Mall and Arera Hills. #madhya pradesh
