The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is preparing to remove sand from the 'Jagamohan' (assembly hall) of the Konark Sun Temple after 120 years. ASI DG Yadubir Singh Rawat and a team of experts from IIT Madras and IIT Delhi reviewed the status. Automatic robotic trolleys and specialized lifts will be used to extract the sand filled by the British between 1903 and 1909 for structural stability. Once the sand removal process is complete, the temple interior will be opened to tourists.
