Nepal is facing a severe agricultural crisis due to deficient monsoon rains and a shortage of chemical fertilizers in 2026. Paddy cultivation has been significantly delayed, and drought-like conditions prevail in the Terai region. To cope with the fertilizer scarcity, many Nepalese farmers are forced to buy smuggled, low-quality fertilizer from across the Indian border. The Nepalese government is now banking on a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement with India, expecting supplies to arrive by the end of July and August to save the farming season.
