India has achieved a historic milestone in the construction of the Zojila Tunnel with a successful 'breakthrough' blast connecting both ends. Located at 11,578 feet, this 13.153 km long tunnel is Asia's longest single-tube bi-directional tunnel. It will connect Baltal in Kashmir to Minimarg in Ladakh, reducing travel time across Zojila Pass from 90 minutes to just 15 minutes. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari witnessed the event. The project is strategically vital as it ensures all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh, overcoming winter closures due to heavy snow.
