Fifty people died in the Sahara Desert after their truck broke down in a remote area near Agadez, Niger. The victims, Nigerien citizens, were returning from a religious festival in Mali. After losing their way, the vehicle stalled 80km from the border. Despite attempts to repair the truck, extreme heat and lack of food and water led to their deaths. Two survivors walked 50km to seek help, but relief teams arrived too late. The victims were buried in a mass grave.
