The Punjab government has achieved a 167% increase in the irrigation area under the Bist-Doab canal network for the year 2025-26. Irrigation Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal stated that 1,10,762 additional acres have been brought under canal irrigation, with 19,213 acres receiving canal water for the first time. The restoration has strengthened the agricultural foundation in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, and Kapurthala.
